Organic Moringa (Oleifera)
Moringa is an incredible nutrient-dense superfood! It has seven times the amount of vitamin C in oranges, four times as much calcium and double the amount of protein in milk, four times the vitamin A in carrots, and three times the potassium in bananas! In fact, moringa tree leaves registered a higher ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) score (157,000!) than most anitoxidant superfoods that are traditionally talked about, including Acai berries, green tea, blueberries, dark chocolate, garlic, goji berries, pomegranates and red wine! In places where no one can afford fancy pharmaceuticals, moringa trees keep people healthy. One nickname for it is “vitamin tree” – with good reason! It is not uncommon to see people reaching up and pulling the young leaves off moringa tress and chewing on them. Getting a fresh burst of vitamins and nutrients in the single handful.

The Garden and Orchard
The garden and orchard are unique due to ecological design and location in Southwest Florida bordered by Indian Creek on fertile compost amended soil with Hügelkultur underpinnings. It was specially designed to minimize water usage and produce the tastiest fruit and vegetables. To minimize water usage and give plants and trees healthy soil, under each tree and in each garden box we layered compost and top soil upon charred and woody debris from the many fallen oak trees on the property. The soil materials came from nearby Dakin Dairy. In addition, the garden and orchard have drip irrigation systems, both minimizing water losses to evaporation and not over watering to keep the fruit and vegetables packed with flavor.
Today our orchard boasts banana, blueberry, blackberry, moringa, papaya, plum, plumcot, mulberry, cherry, elderberry and dragon fruit. Cover crops further enhance the soil while providing excellent forage for the bees in our apiary. Our main cover crops are organic buckwheat and comfrey.
